Do I need experience to join the Trap Team?

To join the trap team, each member must be currently enrolled in STMA schools, must be over the age of 12 and possess a current Firearms Safety Certificate, and submit the required forms and fees.

Do I need to own firearm, and what type?

All students must have the appropriate 12 or 20 gauge firearm in accordance with the Crow River Sportsmen’s Club rules and bylaws.

Where do we practice?

Our home practice range is the Crow Rivers Sportsmen’s Club, we may have additional practices at other area ranges.

The weather is bad, do we still have practice?

Practice and competitions may be conducted in all non-threatening conditions. Yes, we will practice and compete in rain and snow. Sessions may be delayed or may be cancelled for lightning or severe weather conditions (tornado, hail). Activities will be suspended at the first sign of lightning and will remain suspended until 20 minutes after the last lightning has been sighted. All weather cancellations will come via email.

Do I need to bring my own shells?

Shells for regular scheduled practice are included in the season’s registration fee. Shells for additional practices, are not included in the registration fee.

Do I have to stay the entire practice?

Trap is a TEAM sport, therefore we practice as a team and all members are required to stay for the entire practice through the end of the team meeting.

When does the season start, and can I play another sport?

Practice begins in March, team competitions are one night a week for five weeks and are followed by the State Tournament. Practice and league shoots will be held on Thursday nights at 4:15 pm. Participation in another high school sport during the Spring Season is not allowed.

Can I earn a varsity letter in Trap?

Yes, a Varsity Letter can be earned if a student meets the requirements.

Athlete must be a student of STMA High School, ISD 885 or homeschooled students,  grades 8-12.

  1. Athlete must abide by STMA High School and Minnesota State High School Clay Target League activity requirements.

  2. Athlete must average 19.00 or more points per round in competition play at the end of the season.

  3. Athlete must not miss any competition weeks during the season.

  4. Athlete must adhere to all school district rules, policies and requirements concerning student activities including, but not limited to attendance, conduct, scholastic standing and other eligibility requirements.

  5. Athlete must participate in the “Class Championships” in Alexandria in June.

  6. Discretion of the coaching staff.
